Helicopter Parents

I vow today to not be a helicopter parent. I think it is going to be hard to keep. So, I work in a academic environment and you tend to see parents that are calling to schedule classes and advising appointments for their children, which by the way, are ADULTS!. Then on occasion when a student gets a bad grade these parents take it upon themselves to contact professors to complain about such events. This is what has been termed a hovering parent or helicopter parent. They tend to swoop down whenever there is an issue their children can seem to accept as real life.

So now we know what I don’t want to be let me say I think it is going to be hard when that transition from child to adult happens for my boy. I hope we have the skill and wisdom our parents did to raise competent young adults so they can face challenges with out losing their morals.

But look at me here I have a baby at home and I am worrying about when he turns 18.
