Lizards and Butterflies

As a new stay-at-home mom, I am still getting my feet wet. I am learning new routines, new sources of frustration and new sources of joy. Although we don’t have a strict routine established yet, we have ditched the pacy (or shi as Aden called it), and are learning to use the potty. I think we have a ways to go on that one.

One of the best toy purchases I have made recently was a bug catching net. Endless hours of entertainment for a young boy of two! We have already caught spiders, butterflies and lizards!

We gave Aden his first camera yesterday, an old 1 megapixel camera of Kevin’s. He loves it! He is so engaged with it and that was before he was even shown the pictures! His work is brilliant! I need to follow him around and take pictures of whatever he does! He loves taking pictures of all the things that he sees, from his shoes to rocks to his toys to grass!

Taking pictures of Aden every day has been a challenge, but a good one. Not necessarily one that I succeed at every day, but there’s still hope! I recently found out about this guy, Noah Scalin, who started making something every day and inspired a lot of people to do the same. His site, MakeSomething365.com, has made me realize that I’m not alone in trying to create art and that there are lots of really great projects being made every day.

Reading about some of the artist’s work and how it impacted their lives to concentrate on everyday reminded me of a give something away every day project I started last year. I failed at that miserably. Does giving an art project away every day count? What could be more generous? Or is it even generous? Is it self-serving and selfish?

It’s definitely a lot more fun than being pious!
